When Pillows Attack!

Tonight I had a fantastic 28 mile bike ride with some of my awesome friends.
Then I had to run a few errands.  When I arrived home around 8:30 this is where I found our little Beanie.  She had climbed into bed with her Daddy to watch PBS and the tired (almost naked) little girl fell asleep in 2 minutes and chose to fall asleep like this.

TOO DANG CUTE!!

How to Tell that You Need a Pool

It's started out innocently enough.  She just wanted to play with the hose.

Then she wanted to play in the water.

Daddy was planting flowers for Mama.  (Grandma taught him well.)

Go play in the water!!

Soon it was naked!

Mama fetched a proper swim suit.

As always, Pasha LOVED to get wet.

Lonely Iris.

Camera on Micro setting.

OK...I added a puddle pool to my shopping list!

First Tooth

Alli lost her first baby tooth today at school.  She was eating pineapple when it got bent way back and started bleeding a little.  She was concerned and cried to her teacher.  Ms. Brittani offered to pull the tooth out but Alli didn't not like that idea at all.  Thinking fast, Ms. Brittani offered Alli and apple to eat and that did the trick.  When I picked her up from school, she proudly presented me with her her little lost tooth in a zip lock bag.

She told me she doesn't want to give it to the Tooth Fairy so we put the tooth in a fancy box on her dresser where she can keep it.

Sick Girl

Yesterday morning she woke us at 5 am crying. She told us she had thrown up. Daddy asked if she had made it to the bathroom and she told us YES she had. (What a relief.)

Then she told us her tummy was wet. We went to change her clothes and discovered she was having issues from both ends.
Poor girl.

I ventured into her bathroom to discover she had indeed made it to her bathroom but not to the toilet so Daddy cleaned her bathroom floor while I cleaned the girl and the other bathroom floor.
YUCK

The rest of the morning she didn’t feel well and napped between frequent visits to the bathroom.
By mid afternoon she felt better and by bed time she seemed back to normal.

This morning she bounced out of her room and begged to go to school so we sent her.

Around noon the teacher phoned to say she was running a fever and feeling poor. I went to pick her up and she was all wilted so I apologized to her class and whisked her home to bed.

The teacher informed me that almost half of the class was home sick!

She Might Be in Trouble!

This chest of drawers belonged to my Grandparents.  My Grandfather used it daily from the early 1930s until about 10 years ago when he passed away.

Today I discovered that my darling little daughter wrote her name on the front of her bedroom furniture!

No it wasn't in mint condition.
Close up of her handy work.
I decided there was no point in being angry.
I told it was not good and to never do it again.

(I did a similar stunt when I was her age, so either it runs in the family or all kids do this kinda thing to their parents stuff.)

My Arm Can't Make It!

She woke up Saturday morning and was moody and complaining that her head hurt. After much opposition she finally agreed to take some pain reliever and felt much better.

Before lunch, we went to Target to select a gift for Sarah who was having her birthday party at Flips at 4pm. Alli was so excited to select a very pretty and fancy Barbie doll for her friend. It was the perfect gift in her opinion. We spent a lot of time browsing the many choices in the store’s Barbie isle. She finally chose that special one that I felt was within our price range. (Did you know they have some ridiculously pricy Barbie dolls!?!)

We also selected some nice wrapping paper and did NOT buy a card because Alli wanted to make one.

I must say it sure is nice that Alli is old enough to understand that giving a gift is fun and we don’t need to buy her something just because we are shopping at the toy store.

Back home we had lunch and decided to nap before wrapping the gift.

When she awoke from her nap she was certainly not feeling better, in fact she was worse. AND she was even more insistent that she did not like medicine and would not be taking any. I felt her head and it was warm and she was complaining that her arm hurt. I was starting to think we were not going to make the party.

Around 3 it was time to get ready to go. I asked Alli if she wanted to work on that birthday card and she said emphatically no. I then asked if she wanted to help me wrap the gift. She replied yes, but was too tired to actually get up. She whined and complained and wallowed in bed still fussing that her arm hurt.

At this point I told her “Honey, I think you are too sick and not up to this party!” To which she replied without missing a beat “Oh I am up for this party, just my arm isn’t!”

I chuckled at her response but had to tell her we weren’t going and so she had a mini break down. I decided to sooth her pain by offering her the gift as a cancellation prize for missing the party. This made her very happy for about a half hour. Then, the reality that she was missing the party hit her again and she cried some more and begged to go. I told her it was too late and comforted her as best I could.

She spent the rest of the weekend lying in bed, dozing off and on, whining and wanting to lie on her mommy. I did my best to get medicine in her because it did help…. all the while she did her best to avoid it.

Poor baby was sooo sick.
It was a long weekend but she bounced out of bed Monday morning, acted fine and begged to go to school. By noon they called me to come pick her up….she had a fever and was worn back down. I apologized to her teacher for not having kept her home. The teacher said it was no big deal that almost half the class was out sick!

Alli is 5 year old!

Before school, Daddy and I each gave her a gift and wished her a Happy Birthday to start her day off special.

After school I rushed Allia to ballet / tap lessons like normal. While she was in class I sat and chatted with Kalli’s mom Julie and had the best time. She is the librarian at the catholic school; super nice and friendly…so much fun.

After class Beanie and I headed to Yogoluv, a local ice cream shop, for a birthday treat. Daddy was supposed to meet us there but we arrived early so we made good use of our spare time by calling Grandma and Grandpa so they could say Happy Birthday.

After Daddy showed up, Beanie selected lemon soft serve and then topped it with white chocolate chips and strawberries. It was quite tasty; my selection was not as good.

After ice cream Beanie wanted to walk around downtown. After a few blocks she complained we were walking too straight. So when we saw the alley that had been rehabbed we turned down that way. I really wish I had taken my phone or camera so I would have some photos because they cleaned up the alley and put patios on the back of restaurants and even some new store fronts in. It looks so nice, a little secret paradise. I kept expecting to smell or see a dumpster but no, the place was very clean and pleasant.

By the time we got down the alley, Bean had decided that she was hungry and wanted dinner. We said OK, let’s head home and eat. Oh NO, that was not her plan she wanted to eat out. Daddy and I had not mentally or financially prepared for this idea so we tried to talk her out of it. Daddy offered her Chinese carry out and she said NO she wanted to sit in the restaurant and eat. We asked her what she was in the mood for because we really didn’t know where to head. She quickly replied “shrimp”. We giggled, that is not an easy order to fill. We offered to buy her some at the grocery store and she declined, she was bent on eating IN the restaurant. Finally Daddy said lets go to the Greek place down the street and that seemed to please her.

She tried the cucumber sauce (Tzatziki) on a pita and also had some of the Tyropita after deciding it looked good in the display case. She was not interested in our stuffed green pepper at all. As we finished our meals it was obvious she was getting tired so we reminded her there were more gifts at home and she was happy to head that way.

Back home she opened the last of her gifts and then relaxed on the couch with her favorite movie that I bought her for her birthday. She was a very happy, very tired, birthday girl.

Shirt is a gift from Aunt Lauren.

Happy to finally own her favorite movie.

My Neighbor Totoro.

Camera from Grandma and Grandpa....they mailed it so it would arrive on her birthday.

Shirt Thief

Today my multisport club gave us our T-shirts for Nationals. The minute I got home, Alli wanted to try it on, decided she liked it and well.....took it as her new night gum!

She is too cute to take it back!!

Helpful

Alli has been such a good helper today. She helped me peel carrots when I did my weekly cooking.

She also helped me clean my bike and put on my new tires.

Mac & Cheese

For lunch Beanie wanted macaroni and cheese. I told her she could make some; that I would teach her how. She got the box from the pantry and I told her to fetch a pan. She grabbed a small one and I told her to get a larger one so she did. I told her to put water in it and she had to pull up a chair to reach the sink. I really wasn't going to help other than to instruct.  The only thing I did for her was to dump the hot water and noodles into the colander.....didn't want her to burn herself.

Other than that, she made it all by herself!

She said it was the best macaroni and cheese she ever ate!!

Race #3

I gave Allia two instructions before her race tonight. One was to run hard and stay with the little girl in the blue shirt with the long black pony tail (the girl that won the last two weeks). The other was to not slow down or pose if she saw me taking photos; that I wanted a photo of her running hard so she needed to run harder if she saw me.

It was super hot out so the kids did a shorter warm up. Then I helped her line up for her race and told her to go when it started. Allia went out front right away and the blue top girl was on her heels.

About half way around Allia was 6 feet in front of the other girl and slowed down so she could catch up. Evidently she took me literally when I said stay with the other girl. LOL On the last stretch I took this photo and then yelled at her to keep running and to run hard.

This week, my Bean crossed the finish line first!! Only by a foot but she really did outrun the competition. I am so proud of her dedication to running these races. I don’t think she knows the difference between coming in 1st or 3rd. She just knows she is running hard and fast and is happy to do so.

Youth Track Night

Allia and Ava doing warm up stretches.

Allia racing......... in second place about 1/4 of the way around the track.

Getting passed at about 3/4 of the way around.

On the final stretch she slowed down as soon as she saw me.  Oops!

Running into the finish.....she took 3rd again tonight.

The girls posing with their ribbons.  (Ava was a bit unhappy & tired.)

Allia also received a 3rd place award for her long jump from last week.  She now has 3 white ribbons.

My proud moment was when she begged to run some more for practice.  This was after her warm up lap and after her race, so she had already ran 1/2 a mile!
