The rain last night was ridiculous so I should have seen the trouble coming, but instead, I awoke this morning, heard the rain had stopped and got dressed to go run. I drove to the bottom of my street to find it was under water…..again. I then went around the block to see if route E was also flooded. I was hoping to find it open and escape my watery prison, but alas, I watched a pickup make it through the foot deep water between the twin bridges, but there was no way I was going to chance it with the new car. I had to phone my BFF, Terry, who was waiting for me behind Hearnes and break the news that his partner in crime would not be attending the run. (We rescheduled for Sunday.) I drove home and told James that if he wanted out he would have to go the long way……which adds about 30 minutes to the trip. I decided that I could make my favorite class at the gym so I got Alli ready and we did drive out the long way. After my BodyPump class, we went to Wal-Mart to do the weekly grocery shopping. I was hoping that the water would go down by the time I wanted to get back home. Shopping went smoothly until we went to check out. It was about 10:30 in the morning and there were only 4 checkout lanes open (besides the Express check outs.) Each lane had at least 4 people already waiting with carts piled high with Wal-Mart bargains. Since I had a toddler in my cart, I worried that my wait would be too full of adventure. To pass the time, Alli ate a hot dog out of the pack we were buying. Then she indicated she wanted more to eat, so she had a cheese stick. Then I realized her bottom was very soggy so I asked the nice people behind me to watch my cart and Alli and I ran into the nearby restroom for a quick diaper change. I read the covers of all the gossip magazines. I feel so sorry for John and Kate! I did not actually time it, but I am pretty sure my check out wait was longer than my loading the cart time. I felt lucky to be free when we finally got out of there and Alli had not gone completely nuts from boredom. We drove home the regular way thinking the water would be down for sure, but no, it was still way up. So much for freedom; we turned around and started the long, boring drive around the back way; out highway 70, up highway J toward Harrisburg, right on Willhite and then back down route E. Alli took her nap and I called any and every friend or relative to pass the time. Once home, I was so sick of driving, I vowed not to leave the house again all day. Around 3 the road was finally open and I talked Randy into bringing Zoe over so I did not have to drive. (He is so nice about such things.) Around dinner time, Slebos showed up and we all loaded up and went to see baby Jack, Mike and Katie Denehy’s little two month old boy. He was so sweet and I am so happy for them. However, I left thinking how glad I am that Alli is no longer 2 months old. (they are sooo much work)
