At 3 am the alarm went off and James hit snooze. I was seriously considering whether he should live or die. Then he sat up and looked confused and asked me why the alarm had NOT gone off. I told him it did and that he had hit snooze. He had no idea what was going on……so…….I guess he will live another day.
He and Slebos loaded up the canoe and left the house around 3:40 or so. I probably got back to sleep around 4. Then MY alarm went off at 5 and I sure did not feel like getting up, much less running. (This is why the running partner is key……someone was counting on me so I had to get up!) I checked the temperature and it was 38 degrees. Yikes that’s cold. I broke out the knickers and 2 long sleeve tops and found my gloves. (I had so hoped I was done with the gloves until fall.) Terry and I did a quick 7 miles or so. We noted that our planned route took us through a low water crossing that was barely passable today, yesterday it would have been all flooded and we would have had to go around. So, it worked out for the best to not run yesterday.

As soon as I got back to the car, I phoned Zoe to see if she and Alli were doing OK. I unfortunately woke Zoe up. It was not quite 7 am yet and they were both still sleeping. On the drive home, I went through the new McDonalds and got us a couple of Egg McMuffin’s and Alli a sausage McMuffin. While I was in line, I got to thinking………all the people that worked there, before they tore it down, did they pay them the whole two months it took to rebuild it? I would think they would have to do something to retain the trained employees so when the new establishment opens they would all come back. The service was fast and friendly and I am pretty happy with my brand new, sparkling clean Mickey Ds!

Once home, we all enjoyed our McBreakfast and I enjoyed the McCleanup, or lack of dirty dishes. Then it was time to get Zoe home and get myself back home (I sure drive in circles a lot!!) and prepare for the BIG excitement of the day. I was scheduled to ride my bike. Yes, I know, hard to believe. I was hoping I could remember how, lucky for me you never forget how to ride a bike once you learn.

Lauren arrived at 9 to watch the Bean and I rode off into the sunset on my trusty road bike. I biked over to Jessica’s and we then headed out together to do a big tree loop. The sun was out and the temp was now up to 60 degrees, perfect biking weather. (I was over dressed a little.) We enjoyed our ride and talked and talked. We just don’t see each other much these days. All said and done, I biked 33 miles with some decent hills and my average speed was around 13.5. Not fast, but not bad considering I honestly can’t remember the last time I rode the road bike. When I got home, I was hungry and sore and I felt GREAT!!!!

Lauren stayed and visited for a while and we all three went out back and blew bubbles. It is always nice to hang out with Lauren.

James and Slebos returned home around 3 pm and they had only paddled 28 miles. I had them beat!! He-he-he. Actually, they had gone up the Osage River and the water was 15 feet higher than normal and moving fast. I know it was really hard and I could never have done it.

Slebos ate something and then the poor guy headed out the door to drive home to Kansas City. James and I both were exhausted and we spent the rest of the day just being lazy. We watched an old movie and went to bed early.
