M.I.Z. - Z.O.U.

My friend Bryan Topash was brave enough to venture downtown last night and take this photo. As you can see, the celebration was over the top!!

Here is part of an article I "borrowed" from the Columbia Tribune. It tells the tale better than I ever could:

The Missouri Tigers wanted a little zing in their zang-zang. They wanted a little ching in their chang-chang. Indeed, they wanted “College GameDay” to be comin’ to their cit-aaaaayyyyy.

For the first time ever — or at least since the invention of ESPN — Columbia was the center of the college football universe yesterday.

Unlike those other times when Missouri got a little uppity and Oklahoma put the Tigers in their place, there would be no comeuppance.

At 11 p.m. last night, more than 24 hours after the hardiest MU fans were lined up on the Francis Quadrangle for their “GameDay” close-up, they were squeezed together on Faurot Field, celebrating a 36-27 victory over the top team in the BCS rankings.

Sleep-deprived but running on pure zang-zang and chang-chang — whatever that stuff is that Big & Rich sing about in the “GameDay” theme song — these partiers were just getting started. The only thing that could convince them to leave the field was a pilgrimage to Harpo’s behind dismantled goalposts. The hacksaw was busy on this night.

After years of knocking his head against the Big 12’s glass ceiling, Gary Pinkel broke through in a big way against the team that denied him a shot at the national championship in 2007 and a Big 12 title in 2008.

I figured that was Missouri’s chance. The stars had aligned, and the Tigers had their shot and came up a little short against college football royalty. Missouri would settle in for perfectly pleasant eight- or nine-win seasons for the rest of Pinkel’s run. All signs were pointing toward that this year as recently as a few weeks ago, but pleasant just got an upgrade.

The team that couldn’t stay out of trouble, couldn’t run the ball, couldn’t win the big one is the last unbeaten team in the Big 12!
