STUPID FEET
So, as most of you know in early 2008 I had surgery to remove the Neuromas in my feet. The surgery went as planned, but it did not have the desired results. Instead of eliminating my foot pain, it has only gotten worse. In fact, the Neuromas used to only bother me if I spent a lot of time using my feet; now, my feet hurt all the time. The doctor removed the Neuromas, but evidently the nerve in there grows back or the end still has feeling or something. I have studied up on this and have found that this is not all that uncommon for people to have lingering issues and chronic pain even after surgery. Yes, I have been back and discussed options with the doctor. They re-did one foot, but it is no better…..it may even be worse. Basically, they are out of ideas and I am pretty much stuck this way.

One thing that seems to help alleviate some of the pain is to wear the right type of shoe. The key to my shoes not aggravating the pain is that they have a soft foot bed….my feet like padding under them. In fact, going barefoot is the worst. I have found that my Keen sandals work well because they have a big fat rubber cushiony soul. I now have 2 pairs (1 brown and 1 black) and they are pretty much all I wear….which gets boring as you can imagine.

So today, I went to Shoe Carnival (we are so limited here in Columbia) and treated myself to a few new pairs of shoes. I had previously been holding off on shopping and hoping for a miracle cure to pop up. I have over 12 pairs of shoes I can no longer wear comfortably, including at least 6 pairs of $100+ Birkenstocks. It is so sad to get rid of all those shoes I love, but no point in keeping them if I can’t use them. I do have a pair of Born wedge heels, that I can still wear…..they are pretty comfortable. I am glad I can wear some sort of a heel!

My first pick was a new pair of gym shoes……….I don’t like to wear my running shoes to lift in since the orthotics are really only good for running. I wanted to get something comfy and a neutral color. I found these Asics and they feel great.

I also found 2 pairs of sandals that are really cushy. I got this black, somewhat sporty sandal and this dressier sandal that seems to go with just about everything. It is a brand called Sideout.....one I had never heard of before, but I will surely keep them in mind as I think most of their shoes sport a similar super cushy foot bed.

My feet love their new shoes!
