Happy Mother’s Day!!
I started the day off right....with a long run.
At 6 a.m. Terry and I met for a flat 9 mile MKT run. There was still much evidence of last week’s flooding to be seen out on the river bottoms. We saw huge round bales of hay in the strangest places and tons of sticks up in the top of the bridges. I really need to start bringing my camera on these runs....they are always an adventure.

Next, James, Alli and I went to the store and got plants for my pots. This is my Mother’s day gift from Alli and James. I will get to enjoy these flowers and plants all summer long! Super :)

While Alli took her nap, James did a big bike ride and I did some chores. I did 3 loads of laundry, made my sweet and sour cabbage just for James, worked on the crock pot stew, emptied trash cans, watered plants, loaded the dishwasher, etc. etc. I know it sounds dull but I got a lot accomplished and enjoyed the peace and quiet of being by myself for a few hours. Besides, it was cool, breezy and drizzly outside.....not much fun.

Around 5, we picked up Malcolm and Zoe and went out for mother’s day ice cream. We went downtown to a place called Sparky’s. They make their own ice cream and have a very interesting assortment of flavors. Most memorable was the Chocolate-orange sorbet and the Green Tea ice cream. I also hear the carrot cake flavor is really tasty. They also sell liquor, so you can get a Kaluha shake if you like. Malcolm ordered the Red Bull shake and Zoe got a fudge brownie sundae and I got one scoop of chocolate (sometimes you are in the mood for ordinary). At the checkout I was informed that for Mother’s day, moms get one scoop for free so we didn’t even have to pay for mine. That was an unexpected treat!

We sat out front and ate our goodies. Alli tried to swipe mine when I left it for a moment to take this photo.

Out in front of the store, they have a resin duplicate of the real Sparky that the place is named after. It looks very real and Alli was a little confused. She petted it and tried to feed it and thought it odd that it did not lick her or move. Cute stuff.

Then we walked up to the court house to see the fountains and the sculptures. The wind was picking up and it was pretty chilly, so we snapped a few shots and headed for the car.

For Mother’s day, Malcolm and Zoe got me season 2 of Arrested Development (my request). Zoe made sure to wrap it in a very nice gift bag and she also picked out a super cute card. Thank you so much…..I love you both very much and I am proud to be your mom.

After dinner, I continued watching my current TV series…….John Adams. I find it fascinating, like I am peaking into history. It seems very realistic in the details, like George Washington has problems with his teeth. (I think I have a crush on Thomas Jefferson…giggle.) James is not as enthusiastic about it. My theory is that the lack of sex, violence or juvenile humor makes it hard for any man to watch.
