Friday (2-27-09), I took a vacation day so I could pack for the weekend and enjoy some quality time with the kids. After Daddy left for work, Alli and I made eggs and toast for breakfast and ate together on the floor. (She seems to eat better when she is not in her high chair.) She ended up eating a whole scrambled egg and part of mine. Then she ate a few bites of her toast before it became a toy.
We then did laundry and started packing to go to Kansas City for the weekend. Alli joined me in the shower which was fun. After the shower, she had the best time making faces and yelling at herself in the mirror. I had the best time watching her.
We then ran some errands, dropped the dog off for the weekend and came home for lunch and a nap. While Alli slept I finished packing and put everything by the door where James would find it to load the car when he got home.
At 3, Alli and I went to pick up Malcolm from school. The three of us went to visit my old friend Sue-Sue who owns a day care center called Turn the Page, here in Columbia. I never seem to have time to catch up with Sue so it was really nice to see her. She had not seen Alli for probably close to a year. Next we did a little shopping and then Malcolm decided he wanted Applebee’s for dinner. Alli ended up eating my lemon wedge while we were waiting for our dinner and then when her meal arrived, she refused to eat it, so Malcolm ate her corn dog and I munched her broccoli. Malcolm ate all his dinner and declared it good, but not as good as a burger would have been. I let him order a Blondie for desert to make up for his error in selecting an entrĂ©e. Malcolm loves desert.
Next, I drove Malcolm home and picked up Zoe. She wanted Chinese for dinner, but I told her there was no way I was taking her to the food court at the mall on Friday at 5 pm. So, she settled for Fazoli’s which is one of her favorites. Alli and I ate some of those free bread sticks while Zoe enjoyed her meal. They are so good, but greasy, salty and no doubt unhealthy. By now I was full despite the fact that I had never ordered myself an actual meal. We dropped Zoe back at her dad’s and headed for home to prepare to leave town.
We left for Kansas City around 8 p.m. and Alli slept the whole way. When we arrived, she woke up and was thrilled to see Grandma and Grandpa. She stayed up and played for a while and then, despite her tired protests, we all retired for the day. We awoke on Saturday morning to a fresh blanket of snow outside and it was still falling.
The snow was beautiful, but it meant that most of our weekend plans were cancelled. All morning, we entertained ourselves (in the house) by opening James’ birthday gifts, eating Grandma’s yummy food and playing with Alli’s toys. By noon it quit snowing and we shoveled the driveway and plotted our escape. Grandma kept Alli while James, Grandpa Gene and I went to the recreation complex to work out. As soon as we arrived, I jumped on a treadmill and cranked my favorite running music on my I-pod. I watched the pool area through the glass and found it very entertaining. I ran 4 miles and was feeling energized, so I decided to see what else they had to offer.
I tried some of their nice new circuit machines and had lot of fun playing on the sled for squats. I did squats, lunges and calves. I do prefer to work my legs……my arms are just “wimpy, wimpy, wimpy”. Soon a few good running songs came up on my music so I decided to run some more. James was running so I hopped on the treadmill next to him. He was cruising at 10 miles per hour………I was running around 6.5 (yes, I know, I am slow), but it was a rare chance for me to run “with” him. I did another 2 miles......for a total of 6 for the day……it felt great.
Sunday, Rae and I were determined to do some shopping so we headed out despite the cold. At least the sun was shining bright and the snow was melting some. We purchased Alli a new pair of white shoes and two really, really cute dresses.
While we shopped, Slebos came over and James and he talked about paddling since they could not actually get outside to really paddle.
We finally headed back to Columbia around 5 p.m. Alli seemed super tired, so we expected her to nap on the drive; however she did not doze off right away. She played for a while and even gave me a kiss with a real pucker which made me super excited. Up until now she would put her mouth on yours, but could not actually pucker. Then she crabbed for a while and she finally fell asleep when we were almost ½ done with our journey. When we got home, we found that it had not snowed in Columbia at all!
